Clinical appearance of foot deformity after tibial shaft fracture resulting from the contracture of the deep posterior compartment muscles of the leg is presented in this paper. The contracture may be caused by mechanical damage to the muscles or vessels or by deep posterior compartment syndrome. Cavus deformity, shortening of the foot length, claw big toe and hammer lesser toes are frequently unnoticed at the follow-up examination after surgical treatment of the tibial fracture. These findings are based on analysis of 71 patients treated surgically for leg shafts fracture with AO method.
