Abstract

Genograms and ecomaps are visual tools for assessing and planning care for children and adolescents. Using a simple format of the family tree, school nurses can enhance nursing care by viewing students in the context of their history and the connections that are part of their everyday life. Genograms and ecomaps can be used to clarify information and organize it in a brief, but relatively comprehensive, format. A case study illustrates the application of these techniques in the school setting.
