A number of easy and inexpensive diffusion tests have been proposed to find microorganisms that are able to decompose aromatic compounds. These tests made it possible to show the assimilation of catechol, resorcinol and hydroquinone by selected yeast-like fungi. The tests may be used to choose highly active strains from culture collections.
