Midwives and HIV: the case for continuing education.

On a worldwide scale, HIV transmission figures continue to rise dramatically. This paper looks at the impact the pandemic is likely to have on women of childbearing age in the future. The author finds that if current statistical predictions are to become a reality, midwives and perinatal nursing staff are increasingly likely to be exposed to clients with the disease or carrying the virus. Continuing staff education, she says, is crucial.
