Although it is rare to find people willing to talk seriously about sensible smoking or sensible heroin-injection, the concept of sensible drinking is now sufficiently well established to merit debate beyond the specialists who have so far been interested in promoting or opposing it. The purpose of this article is to take a fresh look at sensible drinking as a stimulus to encouraging that wider debate.
