In formaldehyde treated tissues, fluorescent compounds are formed. We could demonstrate, that these compounds result from a reaction of biogenic amines such as beta-phenylethylamines or beta-(3 indolyl) ethylamines with formaldehyde to yield the fluorescent 3,4 dihydroisoquinolines or 3,4 dihydro-beta-carbolines.
