With the modified interrupition technique airway resistance and tidal volume of bed-ridden patients can be measured simultaneously. This objective measure causes no distress to the patient. The effect of Noleptan on tidal volume and airway resistance has been studied in 28 patients (most of them have been unconscious). Tidal volume was improved significantly leading to an increases of arterial pO2. The bronchial airway resistance was uneffected. Our findings underline the postive experiences with Noleptan in clinical trial of intensive care.
