Clinical supervision has been mooted as the answer to the many challenges nurses will face in the future. In this paper, the author offers a definition of what clinical supervision is and what it will mean to the profession. She argues that nurses need to embrace the concept if they are to deliver good quality care, and outlines the central aims of clinical supervision as safeguarding standards of nursing care, developing professional expertise and delivery of quality care.
