The functional role of phospholipids in the processes of maturation and fertilization of mammalian spermatozoa is discussed. It is shown that phospholipids take part in the processing, capacitation and acrosomal reaction of spermatozoa. Changes in the phospholipid composition of spermatozoa of some agricultural animals during deep freezing and thawing is discussed. The protective role of some phospholipids in the process of deep freezing is elucidated. It is shown that the parameters of fertile potential of human gametes depend on the phospholipid composition. It is concluded that phospholipids play an important role in fertile ability of the sperm.
