Cytochemical data are available on peripheral blood neutrophils from 16 babies suffering from prenatal dystrophy and hypoxic or traumatic encephalopathy. These exhibited statistically significant enhancement of acid and alkaline phosphatases, inhibited activity of myeloperoxidase, low percentage of glycogen and lipids. In response to protein enpit therapy combined with retabolil the enzymic profile of the neutrophils improved, glycogen and lipids concentrations normalized. The cytochemical method is advocated for individual evaluation of the trophicity, while protein-anabolic therapy as a metabolic adjuvant.
