Chipping away at general assistance: a matter of economics or an attack on poor people?

Over the past few years, a number of states and localities have restricted or discontinued their general assistance programs. This article describes the political climate that contributed to these general assistance changes and recommends efforts social workers should be making toward reversing this trend.
