Every moment of their lives human beings are in motion. Movement, the first and most fundamental characteristic of being human, is necessary to get to know oneself, by experiment to develop the skeleto-muscular system and to establish contact with others. This paper deals with body movement, psychological mobility and social exchange. This is viewed as a "triad of motion", a dynamic process in pursuit of balance. As a professional activity, movement has several dimensions, qualitatively and quantitatively Nursing is moving and being moved. This paper asks how nurses, as a professional group, cope with the challenge to maintain their own equilibrium, considering the many aspects of movement which their work with patients entails.
