Since 1984 and 1986, a new therapy has been proposed for patients with mitral and aortic stenosis, the Percutaneous Balloon Valvuloplasty (PBV). The outcome of the methods in each type of valvular heart disease have however been different. In mitral stenosis, PBV is used more frequently and the immediate and mid-term results are good when the technique is carried out by an experienced team. Percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty is, in many cases, the first therapeutic step and acts as a surgical commissurotomy. In aortic stenosis, PBV is rarely used because results are disappointing. The procedure is however indicated in the elderly when the operative risk is prohibitively high.
自1984年至1986年，针对二尖瓣和主动脉瓣狭窄患者提出了一种新的治疗方法，即经皮球囊瓣膜成形术（PBV）。然而，每种类型的心脏瓣膜病采用该方法的结果有所不同。在二尖瓣狭窄中，PBV使用更为频繁，并且由经验丰富的团队实施该技术时，近期和中期效果良好。在许多情况下，经皮二尖瓣成形术是首要治疗步骤，其作用相当于外科交界切开术。在主动脉瓣狭窄中，PBV很少使用，因为结果令人失望。然而，当手术风险极高时，该手术适用于老年患者。
