[What do chief surgeons think of their assistants? A survey of peripheral hospitals in Switzerland].

The opinion about their residents of 60 heads of surgical departments of non-university hospitals in Switzerland is presented. Problems concerning employment criteria of residents, their professional education, operative activity and work hours are discussed.
