We report the case of a 55-year-old woman who developed a lung infection by cytomegalovirus (CMV) with overlapping infection by M. kansasii after receiving a kidney transplant. The second germ infection was subclinical, with unusual nodules showing in X-rays. We describe procedures used and diagnostic criteria applied in determining the nature of this atypical mycobacteria in an immunosuppressed patient. The outcome was good with treatment that included rifamycin, cyprofloxacin, streptomycin and ethambutol.
