Late effects of treatment in children with cancer.

For most children, cancer has become a curable disease. With this increased survival, the late effects of the diagnosis of cancer and its therapy have assumed increased importance for these children. Multiple late effects of essentially all organ systems have been described in selected groups of survivors. These may be modified by patient characteristics as well as therapy. Continued definition of these late sequelae are of critical importance to both the survivor of childhood cancer as well as the physicians planning future therapies.
