How can we identify comprehensively the disabled people in the population? A survey carried out in the French "département" of Saône et Loire addressed the issue by questioning the sponsoring bodies: municipalities, humanitarian associates, institutions caring for the disabled, etc... On the basis of the survey, it was possible to build up a data base from which prospective and/or longitudinal studies could be undertaken.
