[Reconstruction of the mandibular ramus in ankyloses of the temporomandibular joints--comparison of various treatment procedures].

Within the years from 1981 to 1992 surgical correction of 24 temporomandibular joint ankyloses was undertaken at the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery of the university of Essen. The reconstruction of the temporomandibular joint and mandibular ramus with a costochondral graft and the stabilisation with microplates proves to be the best treatment for reaching functional recovery and mandibular growth.
