Abstract

We have constructed a genetic linkage map of the distal long arm of human chromosome 6 with 16 polymorphic DNA loci, including six VNTRs, based on genotypic analysis in 40 CEPH pedigrees. The genetic map spans 31 cM and the distance is similar to that estimated by physical methods. The order of loci is basically consistent with physical localizations determined by fluorescence in situ hybridization. This map will be useful for isolation of putative tumor suppressor genes on chromosome 6q that are implicated in certain malignancies and will assist studies of genetic diseases.
