Trauma in pregnancy is a frequent occurrence that all obstetricians should be prepared to manage. The first priority is treatment and stabilization of the woman. Only then should attention be directed to the fetus, where therapy will require individualization. Ultrasonography, electronic fetal and uterine monitoring, and examination of maternal blood for evidence of fetal-maternal hemorrhage may assist in the evaluation of the fetus.
