Under study were effects of triethylenthiophosphoramid (thioTEP) on mature gametes of rabbits, their impregnating capacity and embryonic development. When treated with thioTEP in non-toxic concentration the spermatozoa did not change their mobility, vitality in vitro and impregnation capacity. However, investigation of early postnatal development showed a delay of the beginning of cleavage and death at early stages due to thioTEP effects; the number of formed blastocysts was observed to decrease from 76% to 61%, i.e. by a statistically significant value 15 +/- 6,5%. A greater number of zigotes of delayed development was found in a group of experimental animals (39%), as compared with controls (24%), when females were dissected on the 4th-5th days after impregnation. DNA content in spermatozoa treated with the chem-mutagen remained unchanged.
