Referring to a case of post-traumatic osteoarthritis of the hip due to Salmonella, we reviewed the literature on the subject. Seldom encountered, this condition is often endemic and predominantly affects patients with chronic diseases. Despite advances in the field of antibiotics, medical treatment alone is usually insufficient and removal of osteosynthetic material is necessary. We discussed the phenomenon of bacterial adhesion to prosthetic material.
