Mercury pollution in the superficial sediments of the continental shelf of the golfe du Lion, is characterized by an important extension in its eastern part, which is under the direct influence of the Rhône river, and more limited and fragmented in itw western part. Between both these zones, territories with low contamination persist, of which the hydrodynamism prevents the advance of dense particles containing mercury.
