Nonsurgical anesthesia services may be requested by interventional angiographers specializing in the treatment of either visceral or central nervous system lesions. Procedures commonly performed in some angiography laboratories are discussed along with associated physiological alterations and anesthetic implications for interventional angiographic undertakings. These cases include: hepatic artery embolization; the transjugular intrahepatic shunt procedure, and transcatheter therapy of intracranial and extracranial lesions. Anesthetic approaches are suggested for these procedures based on the author's experience with them and anesthetic practice at a major medical center in the northwest.
