Abstract
Sacrifice of the ICA can be used to treat a variety of conditions. Whenever possible, temporary occlusion of the carotid artery should be performed before the actual sacrifice to evaluate for tolerance to the occlusion. In many cases, endovascular occlusion of the carotid artery is preferable to surgical occlusion.
