Antimicrobial agents are usually administered to cattle intramuscularly (im). After im injections, tissue damage at the injection sites may occur. This may be caused by the vehicle, the active ingredient, or both. Other factors affecting tissue reaction are pH, osmotic status, injection volume, concentration of the antimicrobial agent, and the injection technique used. Repeated injections and large injection volumes promote tissue damage ( 1987).
