[Parenteral nutrition in childhood (author's transl)].

Despite the increasing use of total parenteral alimentation in infants this mode of feeding still presents a number of problems owing to the special nutritional requirements and the pathophysiological peculiarities of infancy. The composition of the alimentation mixtures, the indications for, and techniques and complications of, total parenteral nutrition are reviewed.
