The National Commission on AIDS ended its 4 years of operation just as President Clinton named the Administration's first AIDS Policy Coordinator, Kristine Gebbie, MN, RN, FAAN. "A strong, consistent voice of leadership" was a key recommendation from the commission and Ms. Gebbie promises to be the stimulus for such leadership in both the public and private sectors. As the number of new AIDS cases continues to increase, hospitals and other care providers will be burdened with the financial challenge of caring for these patients, many of them uninsured.
