Abstract
The hypoglossal nucleus in embryos at stage 13 extends through the medulla reaching upper cervical segments of the spinal cord. It is formed by elongated group of cells in the ventral part of the basal plate. From the nucleus arise five thick roots which enter the occipital somites.
