The American Cancer Society estimates that, in 1993, genitourinary (GU) cancers will account for about 37% of all new cases of cancer in men and about 4% in women. Approximately 18% of all cancer deaths in men and 3% in women will be from GU cancers. Identifying the differences in the occurrence of testicular, prostate, bladder, and renal cancer by age, race, sex, and geographic distribution and looking at trends over time are necessary for the development of etiologic hypotheses and appropriate health services.
