Many combination regimens can induce a high response rate in patients with small-cell lung cancer; however, the complete response rate is still modest and the median survival does not exceed one year in most studies, even in patients with limited disease. Chest radiation therapy improves the local controls and slightly prolongs survival in patients with limited disease, but long-term survival remains poor.
