Abstract
- There is more consensus regarding what mental illness is than what mental health is not. 2. The NIMH was instrumental in moving psychiatric nursing from its largely diploma and baccalaureate base into the realm of master's preparation. 3. Nurses today not only monitor the medications their clients use, but prescribe them. 4. In some primary care programs, clients see the psychiatric nurse as their first line of defense for physical as well as mental problems.
