The study demonstrates 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 receptors in the integument of different vertebrate groups, using a very sensitive streptavidin method. Positive reaction staining was confined to fibroblasts/fibrocytes in the dermis of those animals, which lacked strongly calcified or hardened tissue elements in this skin layer.
