Recent literature suggests that regional anesthesia can improve outcome and decrease hospital stay and costs. Through a better understanding of regional anesthesia, the perioperative nurse specialist can be an invaluable asset to both the patient and anesthesiologist. This article discusses the indications and limitations of the more common regional anesthetic techniques.
