There are a number of other oral manifestations of disease states that the physician can only assess by thorough examination of all structures and tissues in the mouth. By applying the simple principles of oral assessment and appropriate treatment and referral for common oral conditions, physicians can deliver optimum health-care services to the older adult patient.
