One year there seem to be too few nurses, the next too many. We insist that we can't get along without nurses, and then replace them with unlicensed aides while still holding them liable for the work those aides do. Not surprisingly, nurses are calling one another names and filing lawsuits. Unions are bickering. Associations are splintering. There have even been death threats. What's going on here, and will nursing ever be the same?
