A modification of the use of extraskeletal immobilization for comminuted fractures of the distal radius.

The patients selected for this modification of the Roger Anderson device are few, because the method is intended for unstable fractures of the distal radius. Extensive disabling stiffening of the wrist and hand encountered following prolonged immobilization by rigid distraction methods can be avoided or greatly reduced by this simple modification of the method. This modification of the extraskeletal fixation should prove to be superior to rigid distraction when early decompression of the carpal tunnel is indicated.
