The review summarizes contemporary views on the biological role, levels and mechanisms of regulation of carboxypeptidase H--the exopeptidase of secretory vesicles removing arginine and lysine residues from C-termini of peptides. It is concluded that although carboxypeptidase participates at the terminal stages of biological active peptide generation, it does not determine the levels of active neuropeptides in the organism.
