Neonatal nursing workload--can it be measured?

Continuing pressure on tertiary hospitals to reduce expenses has inevitably meant a demand to reduce nursing staff. This has intensified the need to ensure that staffing allocation is appropriate. A method to calculate staffing needs based measurement of neonatal workload is explored.
