Excluding the wisdom teeth, the average human being is supplied by nature with a total of 42 tooth roots (24 in the maxilla and 18 in the mandible). After the loss of any tooth root, bone resorbs at that site due to the lack of endosseous stress. With this article, the author supports the idea of a new concept: keeping the individual alveolar bone site alive with endosteal root-form implants by imitating the natural dentition as closely as possible--even in the subantral region.
