Cardiac toxicity with cisapride.

Serious cardiac arrhythmias including ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, torsades de pointes, and Q-T prolongation have been reported in patients taking cisapride with other drugs that inhibit the cytochrome P450-3A4 hepatic enzyme. This column will review the mechanism of action of cisapride, the drug's metabolism and reported cardiac adverse effects with intravenous cisapride.
