Continuous infusion of coagulation factor concentrates has become more popular in recent years because it can substantially reduce the cost of surgery for a patient with hemophilia. This technique has also been used successfully for treatment of severe bleeds, induction of immune tolerance and short-term prophylaxis. The large selection of devices complicates the choice of an infusion system for this delivery approach. However, choosing the best type of device for a particular situation may determine the success or failure of continuous infusion.
