A study was carried out on 128 women with clinical signs of cervicitis. Direct immunofluorescence was used for the diagnosis of genital chlamydial infection. 46 (of total 128) were positive for C. trachomatis. (35.9%). Abnormal colposcopic findings were found in 38 women cervical biopsies were taken in 52 women. 8 women were positive for C. trachomatis in the group with abnormal colposcopic findings. 24 were positive for C trachomatis in the group, where cervical biopsies were taken. Comparing the results it was found that genital chlamydial infection did not influenced directly the development of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
