Histamine was shown to increase afferent impulse activity of the small intestine's mesenteric nerves in a dose-dependent manner, the effect being reduced by antagonists of the H1 and H2 histamine receptors. PG E2 and PC D2 also enhanced the afferent impulse activity. Interaction of antigens with the intestinal mast cells seems to participate in immune response.
