[Various problems of surgical treatment of volvulus of the sigmoid].

Some aspects of surgical tactics in 57 patients with sigmoid ileus are discussed. In 42 patients palliative operations were performed, 7 patients (16.7%) died. In 15 cases radical operations were performed. Palliative operations are recommended only for aged patients, but in most cases sigmoidectomy seems to be warranted.
