Spinal osteoporosis is a common condition in the elderly. Its aetiology is unknown although endocrine and metabolic factors appear to be involved. The diagnosis is relatively straight-forward but treatment is unsatisfactory. In this article the author discusses the disease as a whole and presents his views on the management of the condition.
