Whole-body hyperthermia. A systemic treatment for disseminated cancer.

At the present time, whole body hyperthermia has been used to palliate disseminated disease in terminally ill patients, and to increase the quality of their lives by relieving tumour induced pain. Soft tissue sarcomas and tumours of gastro-intestinal origin may prove to be sensitive to hyperthermia. The future depends on finding individual tumour sensitivities and fractionating treatment more effectively.
