The aim of the study was to determine the free fatty acids and triacylglycerol concentrations in the gastric, duodenal, ileal and colonic mucosa of fasted-refed rats. As compared to fasted group, refeeding resulted in a significant increase of free fatty acids content in the mucosa of the stomach, ileum, and colon but not in the duodenum, while triacylglycerol concentration increased at that time only in the duodenum; in parallel with the mucosal lipid changes, it was observed a significant decline in plasma free fatty acids level. We suggest that plasma free fatty acids may be implicated in the formation of lipid balance during refeeding in the gastrointestinal mucosa.
