Hemodynamic pacing--the outcomes perspective: a review of the literature.

Concerns about significant and rising health care costs have sent the health care pendulum swinging in a more conservative direction. A common-sense approach to health care suggested by outcomes advocates focuses on health care that will determine the best patient outcome for the best dollar value from the combined perspectives of patient, provider, and payer. For patients who require pacing, whether temporary or permanent, this review of the literature summarizes the perspectives of patient, provider, and payer favoring hemodynamic (atrial-based or dual-chamber) pacing.
