Lead screening in children: the role of the school nurse.

Lead toxicity can have devastating effects on the young child. School nurses are in an important position to identify those children at risk for lead toxicity and make appropriate referrals to health care providers. In addition, the school nurse is able to educate the students and their families in measures to prevent lead exposure in the home, school, and other environments.
